Thomas Prowse, the n2one inc. founder, is an Ottawa based technology lawyer who has actively worked in the open source software (“oss”) and hi tech world for over two decades.
Before taking on his current in-house counsel role in September 2015, Thomas operated the prowse technology law office which he launched in February 2012. Before that, he was Intellectual Property Counsel with a global telecommunications equipment provider company. Prior to joining that company, Thomas was a partner at a major Canadian law firm with a practice focused on providing legal advice to technology companies. Thomas was selected by his peers to be included in the 2010 and 2011 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the Technology Law speciality. Thomas was the Global Law Department leader on the Nortel Open Source Advisory Team and his private practice, government policy, and in-house counsel experience equip him to provide practical legal advice grounded in his understanding of current business and technological complexities.
Thomas has been thinking about alternative delivery models for legal services for many years. He coined the term “commons sourcing” some time ago to describe the pooling of shared information based resources under oss methodologies for use by companies for commercial purposes. Thomas believes that commons sourcing is both the future of legal and other professional services and a third wave of global commercial transformation!
